Our founders first met while studying their PhD’s in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the University of Calgary.
TurnCO2 was born when Nick, Jack, and Oliver met during grad school at the University of Calgary and bonded over their love for beer and a quirky passion for carbon capture. What started as lively discussions on campus, turned into developing cutting-edge technology right here in Calgary. With two pitch competition wins under their belts, this dynamic trio is brewing up a bright future in carbon capture.
What We Do
Our carbon capture technology at TurnCO2 is unique, utilizing the physisorption of CO2 on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) instead of traditional methods like cryogenic distillation or chemical scrubbing. Think of it as a reverse scrubber: instead of capturing impurities, it selectively captures CO2 and lets other gases and contaminants pass through. This process is highly selective for CO2, energy efficient, and allows for easy regeneration and release of CO2 using simple low-temperature swings. Our innovative approach not only reduces carbon emissions efficiently but also provides a reliable source of CO2 for brewers.
